It has always interested me when I see supporters wearing shirts with random team players names and numbers on the back of there shirts. When I went skiing in Bulgaria over Christmas, I was at the top of the mountain and the man working at the cafe appeared wearing a Chelsea shirt with the name Lampard and the number 8 on the back! Football shirts are big business with clubs bringing out new ones practically every season. I propose to design and make a new football kit, looking at football fonts and numbering (creating my own football font), branding, logos and styles.
To make this brief live, it would be the aim to get the new font onto a teams football shirt or for my designs to be agreed to be used. Designing a kit for a Sunday league or community team although not my preferred choice, would provide me with a greater degree of freedom of design when it comes to logo, kit design, typography and the over all general aesthetics.
Players move about so much that printing names on the back of shirts seems pointless, my friend supports Sheffield Wednesday and every time he buys a shirt and adds a players name to the back, they leave the club the following season.
'There’s only one David Beckham'......or is there? Over one million David Beckham shirts were brought globally, when he joined Real Madrid. It’s a fans way of showing support for the player, and in away idolizing them. Every day you’re pretty much guaranteed to see a football star!
Walking adverts, shirts are full of branding and sponsorship, fans are walking adverts. They are open billboards waiting to be filled.
Fake shirts are so common these days, and people chop and change there team depending on who are doing well, that you could have vending machines for team scarf’s, or shirts, disposable shirts, changing colour shirts?
Look at football shirt sponsors and ways of implementing more. Creating a specific football clubs font.
